Interesting facts about BOTOX
The wrinkles disappear few days after the procedure and may reappear, in most of the times less obvious by reference to the initial moment, in 6 month term, or even 1 year after undergoing the procedure.
The botulinum toxin is more and more used also for other facial areas, even at the neck level, for the improving the muscles contractility in these areas and for the look improvement.
Injecting small boluses of botulinum toxin is an extremely valuable technique for treating the hyperhydrosis (the excessive sweat) at the level of the underarm, of the palm or of the feet soles, by blocking the sweat and by correcting this extremely unpleasant problem.
Its injection produces a muscular relaxation, working at the muscles level by blocking the release of the chemical mediator i.e. acetylcholine from the nerve endings.
The muscles relaxation is temporary, and coming back to the initial state is gradual.
The effect is visible early, 3-4 days after the injection, and is maximal to 1-2 weeks.
The time interval between shots depends on each patient.
Depending on the individual response, it should not be less than 16 weeks, in average being of approximately 6 months. In the case of underarm hyperhydrosis, the toxin may inhibit, temporarily, the secretion of the sweat glands.
The clinical studies have demonstrated an optimal effect for 4-7.5 months in the case of underarm hyperhydrosis, and for approximately 30% of the patients the effect will still hold.
In the dermatologic practice, for the aesthetic use, for reducing the wrinkles, no important side effects have been recorded.
The technique is worldwide used, for many years now, with sustained research and debates within symposiums, being extremely valuable, due to its efficacy, for the antiaging/antiwrinkle treatments.
The side effects of the botulinum toxin injecting procedures are minimal, most of them limiting to the injecting area, such as burn/pain, swelling, erythema, sensibility, bleeding or pruritus.
Very rarely, there may appear cephalalgias (headaches), anxiety, facial asymmetries, uneven wrinkle reduction, immediate hypersensitivity reactions (rush, edema, anaphylaxis), blepharoptosis, photophobia etc.
The latter mentioned are extremely rare, according to the present clinical trials.
Most often, it targets excessive expression wrinkles, visible when a person smiles, laughs or wonders. These wrinkles tend to accentuate significantly in dynamics and will be much less noticeable when the face is relaxed.
The procedure is generally aimed at people aged between 25 and 65. Over this age, wrinkles become static and, in most cases, will not be influenced by the treatment. There is a need for a medical exam for each patient before the procedure to determine whether it suits each patient.
A small amount of the substance will be injected into the targeted areas with a very small needle, the discomfort being minimal. Most patients compare the sensation to that of a slight sting. No prior anesthesia of the area is required, and daily activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure.
For these treatments we use needles of very small size, the discomfort being almost non-existent. There may be a slight feeling of pressure or prick, but it disappears very quickly.
In extremely rare cases local pain of moderate intensity, inflammation, redness and / or mild bleeding may occur.
Effects are visible after a period of 3-8 days, and generally last between 3 and 5 months. Often, after a few sessions, the results will last for a longer period.
A single treatment session is enough to relax the face and remove unsightly wrinkles. For long-term results, regular sessions are recommended at regular intervals, every 5-6 months.
When the effects begin to disappear, the wrinkles treated will begin to be visible again, but in most cases, they will not be as deep and visible as before the procedure. After 3-4 treatment sessions, the results begin to persist over a longer period.
There is no recovery period, most patients resuming their daily activities immediately after the procedure. However, it is advisable to avoid intense physical effort and massage of the area for 1-2 days.
Although wrinkle results will be visible, BOTOX treatment will not radically change the face’s expressiveness. The muscles will be relaxed to minimize the appearance of unaesthetic wrinkles, but the expressiveness will remain.
Surely! Both treatments provide an improved look, while preserving the natural appearance of the face. The facial expression will be preserved. Surgical procedures involve removing excess skin, leaving an unnatural aspect, while both fillers and BOTOX will create a general younger look without an artificial aspect.
BOTOX relaxes the facial muscles in the desired areas to get rid of the unsightly appearance of the wrinkles. By means of fillers the targeted wrinkles will fill up, restoring the volume. Briefly, BOTOX is a corrective and preventive measure of wrinkles and unwanted lines on the face, and fillers are used where it is necessary to restore the lost volume.
Considering all the options in facial aesthetics, the procedure is financially accessible. Prior to any procedure, during a medical exam, treatment options can be changed according to your budget.
In the case of an active skin infection, your doctor will advise you to delay the procedure. It is also not indicated for patients with known hypersensitivity to the substance used and those with certain neuromuscular disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myasthenia gravis or Lamber-Eaton syndrome.
